General Information

To help prevent damage to your home’s foundation or the growth of mold or mildew, we’ve put together a group of Helpful Tips on our blog.

Mold is a small, microscopic organism that can be found both indoors and outdoors. Mold needs a starter spore, a food source, for example paper from insulation, drywall, wood, or even dead skin, and lastly moisture. It is important to note that the only thing you can control in preventing mold growth is moisture. No moisture means no mold.

Mold can cause health problems when inhaled including respiratory issues, congestion, red and watery eyes, nose, throat, and skin irritation, emphysema, asthma, and many more. As such, if you have mold, be sure to contact Flood & Fire Solutions today so that we can get it removed immediately!

This option may be attractive as a means of saving money and for a small leak this may be fine, however in the event of major flooding, standing water, or consistent leaking problems, there are a handful of things that will hurt you in the long run notably issues with your insurance, detrimental effect on your home’s value, and risk of the problem growing or spreading.

Yes, water damage falls into one of three categories, dependent upon the purity of the water involved.

  • Category 1 or Clean Water is that in which the source of the water is from a clean water source such as a plumbing supply line.
  • Category 2 or Gray Water damage is that in which the flood water may contain chemicals, cleaners or other contaminates that could cause discomfort or sickness. Some examples of this would be water damage from a leaking dishwasher, a broken waterbed or fish tank, or an overflowing toilet.
  • Category 3 or Black Water contains pathogenic agents and is highly unsanitary. Examples include toilet overflows that originate from beyond the toilet trap, flooding from seawater, overflowing raingutters or other ground water, or rising water from rivers and streams. Category 2 water that is not removed promptly may be re-classified as Category 3 water.
